Both teams to score combined with over 2.5 goals looks like an interesting option based on Austin FC's defensive vulnerabilities, Vancouver Whitecaps' impressive attacking production and the recent tendency of both clubs to participate in matches featuring goals at both ends.

Austin have scored 35 goals during the 2026 MLS season while conceding 47. Their defensive record has been a significant concern, with opponents frequently creating scoring opportunities and exploiting weaknesses in their defensive organisation.

Their most recent completed league match ended in a heavy 4-1 home defeat against Nashville SC on October 10. The fixture produced five goals and satisfied both parts of the proposed selection.

Austin's previous 3-3 draw against San Diego FC provides another encouraging example. That encounter produced six goals, with both teams demonstrating considerable attacking quality while struggling to maintain defensive stability.

Their recent results also include a 2-1 away victory against Vancouver Whitecaps in September, a 2-1 away victory against Portland Timbers and a 2-1 victory against Seattle Sounders.

These performances demonstrate that Austin are capable of contributing offensively even when facing competitive opponents.

The previous meeting against Vancouver is particularly relevant. Austin secured a 2-1 victory at BC Place on September 13, meaning both teams scored and the match produced at least three goals.

Vancouver have demonstrated significantly stronger attacking production throughout the season. They have scored 60 league goals compared with Austin's 35, highlighting the difference in offensive efficiency between the two sides.

Vancouver's attacking statistics are particularly impressive. They average approximately 17 shots and 6.1 shots on target per match, compared with Austin's averages of 10.8 shots and 4.1 shots on target.

This difference could become important against an Austin defence that has already conceded 47 goals.

Vancouver's recent performances provide further encouragement. Their results include a 3-3 draw against DC United, a 3-1 defeat against Chicago Fire and a 2-1 defeat against Austin.

All three matches satisfied both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, producing a combined total of 14 goals.

Across those three fixtures, Vancouver scored six goals and conceded eight, averaging approximately 4.67 total goals per match.

Austin's recent attacking performances suggest they are capable of contributing to another high-scoring encounter. Their three goals against San Diego and their ability to score against both Nashville and Vancouver highlight the attacking potential available within the squad.

However, Vancouver's overall defensive record is considerably stronger than Austin's. They have conceded only 29 goals this season, compared with Austin's 47.

This difference is particularly important because the combined selection requires Austin to score at least once. Vancouver's attacking quality may create several opportunities, but their ability to keep clean sheets represents a potential obstacle to both teams finding the net.

The statistical matchup is nevertheless encouraging. Austin have conceded an average of approximately 1.47 goals per match across a 32-match sample, while Vancouver's 60 league goals demonstrate their ability to punish defensive mistakes.

The selection would be successful with results such as 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 or 1-3.
