Both teams to score combined with over 2.5 goals looks like an interesting option based on the attacking capabilities of both clubs, their recent involvement in high-scoring encounters and the defensive vulnerabilities that have emerged during the opening stages of the Premier League season.

Newcastle have demonstrated considerable attacking potential in their early league performances. Their opening five Premier League fixtures produced 10 goals for the team, averaging exactly 2.0 goals scored per match. They found the net at least twice in four of those five matches, highlighting their ability to create and convert opportunities against different opponents.

Their recent results include a 2-1 home victory against Hull City and entertaining 2-2 draws against Liverpool and Bournemouth. All three encounters satisfied both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, demonstrating the combination of Newcastle's attacking quality and their difficulties keeping clean sheets.

Aston Villa have also been involved in competitive attacking encounters. Their most recent Premier League fixture finished in a 2-2 draw against Brentford on October 10. Villa demonstrated their ability to respond offensively but were unable to protect their advantage, highlighting defensive vulnerabilities that Newcastle could potentially exploit.

The previous meetings between these clubs provide a mixed but interesting statistical picture. Their FA Cup encounter in February 2026 ended in a 3-1 Newcastle victory, while Villa secured a 4-1 victory in April 2025. Both matches comfortably satisfied the combined selection.

However, their Premier League meeting in January 2026 ended in a 2-0 Aston Villa victory, while the August 2025 encounter finished 0-0. These results demonstrate that the fixture does not consistently produce goals from both teams.

The attacking matchup remains interesting. Newcastle's average of 2.0 goals scored per league match suggests they have the potential to contribute multiple goals, while Aston Villa's recent performance against Brentford demonstrates their ability to score against competitive opposition.

An external statistical projection places the probability of both teams scoring at approximately 59%, while the probability of over 2.5 goals is estimated at 55%. These figures support the possibility of an attacking encounter, although the probability of both conditions occurring together is necessarily lower than either individual percentage.

Results such as 2-1, 1-2, 2-2 or 3-1 would satisfy the selection.
