What can Mohammed Kudus bring to West Ham?
Kudus is transferring from Ajax to West Ham for around £38m.
Mohammed Kudus becomes the third player West Ham has acquired using the funds from Declan Rice's transfer. So far, the absence of Rice doesn't seem to be felt, as West Ham has had a strong start in the Premier League with 2 wins and 1 draw. They have now secured three players with the money received for Declan Rice, and it appears that West Ham has been meticulous in their approach, successfully obtaining the players they targeted without overpaying for them.
James Ward-Prowse (£30m)
Edson Álvarez (£35m)
Mohammed Kudus (£38m)
Mohammed Kudus' skills include technical proficiency with the ball, good dribbling ability, vision and passing accuracy, versatility in playing multiple midfield roles, agility and quick footwork, strong defensive work rate, and the ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates.
He has excellent close ball control and can take on defenders with his dribbling ability, his football upbringing has been in Danish FC Nordsjaelland and then Ajax, two clubs known for their specific playing style, which is technical and possession oriented. Therefore, West Ham is getting a well-trained player, and even though he's still young (23), he has gained considerable experience with both Ajax and the Ghanaian national team.
Mohammed Kudus stats for Ajax:
Games: 87
Goals: 27
Assists: 12
Kudus has primarily been used as an attacking midfielder and right winger at Ajax, but he's capable of playing in all offensive positions. It will be interesting to see whether David Moyes envisions him as a forward or an attacking midfielder. While there were rumors linking Lucas Paquetá to Manchester City, that deal fell through. As of now, there's competition for spots in West Ham's offensive lineup, so Kudus will need to work hard to secure a place in the starting eleven.
West Ham has achieved good squad depth and now boasts a strong midfield and attack, which will be essential as they're once again set to compete in European competitions due to their victory in the Conference League, securing a place for next year.
