Preview: Ukraine vs. England – Team news and prediction
The two top teams in Euro 2024 qualifying Group C face each other this Saturday evening.
The match is, of course, being played on neutral ground, and therefore, the game is being held in Poland at the Wrocław Stadium. England has been dominant in the group so far, with 4 wins in 4 matches and an impressive goal difference of 15-1. They began with a fine 2-1 victory over Italy before defeating Ukraine 2-0 and thrashing Malta and North Macedonia with scores of 4-0 and 7-0, respectively.
Ukraine has only played 3 matches in the group. They started with a loss against England before securing narrow victories over Malta (1-0) and North Macedonia (3-2). So, they've had a decent start in the group, and now the ultimate test comes as they first face England and then visit Italy. They'll need to earn points in one of those matches to avoid the risk of Italy overtaking them and claiming the 2nd place.
England appears to be a national team in top form, and their offense is firing on all cylinders. Bukayo Saka, Rashford and Harry Kane are all in great form, and it's difficult to see them not scoring in this match.

Team news:
Mykola Shaparenko and Ruslan Malinovskyi are out with injuries and unavailable. Andriy Pyatov, who has been a stalwart for Ukraine for many years, has retired, so it will be Lunin in goal. Arsenal player Zinchenko has been dealing with minor injuries in the buildup, but he is expected to be fit and is likely to start. Andriy Yarmolenko has a mission in this qualification, which is to score 4 goals to overtake Ukraine legend Andriy Shevchenko's record as the all-time top scorer for Ukraine.
Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, John Stones, and Raheem Sterling were not part of Southgate's squad when it was initially selected due to injuries. Now, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Jack Grealish have joined that list due to minor injuries in their recent Premier League matches. Harry Maguire is a key figure in the English national team, even though he hasn't been playing for Manchester United. With Stones out, it appears that Marc Guehi may partner with Maguire in defense.
Bellingham and Declan Rice are in excellent form and are expected to start in midfield. Jordan Henderson seems likely to be the third man in the midfield, despite significant criticism of his selection following his move to Saudi Arabia.
Ukraine expected lineup:
Lunin; Konoplya, Zabarnyi, Krystov, Mykolenko; Stepanenko, Sydorchuk, Zinchenko; Yarmolenko, Vanat, Tsygankov
England expected lineup:
Pickford; Walker, Guehi, Maguire, Chilwell; Bellingham, Rice, Henderson; Saka, Kane, Rashford
Prediction:
It's certainly possible that England repeats their performance from the first match and secures a victory. They do possess a lot of quality, making it challenging for Ukraine to defeat them. A 2-0 win for England is a plausible outcome. Additionally, considering England's offensive capabilities, it's reasonable to believe that Harry Kane might score in the game with odds at 2.10.
