We’ve looked at Real Madrid top goal scorers this season so far:
David Alaba:
David Alaba has been fantastic defensively for Real Madrid this season where he has taken on the responsibility as the defensive general.
He has scored 1 goal in La Liga which is higher than his expected goals xG of 0.79. He also scored in the UEFA Super Cup final that Real Madrid won against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Luka Modric:
Modric continues to be one of the world's best midfielders even at the age of 37. Together with Toni Kroos, he controls the midfield for Real Madrid and it will be difficult to see how they will do without these two when the time comes.
Modric has scored 3 goals in La Liga which is higher than his expected goals of 1.38. He has also scored 2 goals in the 4 Champions League matches he has participated in so far.
Karim Benzema:
Karim Benzema was recently named the world's best footballer, after an impressive last season where he delivered some fantastic performances, especially in the Champions League. This season he has been affected by injuries and that is one of the reasons why he has not scored the goals he should have.
He has not scored in the Champions League yet, while in La Liga he has 5 goals in 7 games. Overall, he has 6 goals this season.
Rodrygo:
Rodrygo has improved this season and taken on more responsibility. He is considered one of the great players of the future and the Brazilian player finally seems to have got used to European style of play.
Rodrygo has scored 4 goals in La Liga this season which is lower than his expected goals of 5.68, however he has scored 3 goals in the Champions League which increases his goal average. In total, he has scored 7 goals this season.
Federico Valverde:
Valverde is the player everyone is talking about at the moment. The Uruguayan midfielder has surprised everyone with his play and impressive statistics, he is already being mentioned as one of the best playing midfielders in the world.
Valverde has scored 6 goals in 12 games in La Liga which is much higher than his expected goals of 1.51. He has also scored 2 goals in the Champions League which gives him a total of 8 goals.
Vinicius Junior:
The Brazilian magician is not unsurprisingly the player with the most goals for Real Madrid so far. He has scored 6 goals in La Liga so far, but expectations must have been greater for him as he is lower compared to his expected goals of 6.08.
He has scored 4 goals in the Champions League which gives him a total of 10 goals which is acceptable.
