There were high expectations for Manchester United when Ronaldo joined the club, but they failed to win any of the major trophies in his first 3 seasons. At the same time, Ronaldo only scored 19 league goals in the period 2003-2006, which is among the lowest he has achieved in his entire career.

United reached the Champions League final again in 2008/09, where they lost 2-0 to Barcelona. It is the only time that Ronaldo has lost a Champions League final and he has several times called it one of his biggest disappointments in his career.
