Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for most goals scored in a single UCL campaign.
The UEFA Champions League is back, and more records are up for grabs.
The Champions League is back, and it's without several profiles who hold numerous records. Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema have been the faces of the tournament for many years, but now it's time for others to step up and chase the records, especially those set by Messi and Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo is currently Mr. Champions League; he is the player with the most goals, assists, appearances, and he holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Champions League season.
Most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign:
17 - Ronaldo (2013/14)
16 - Ronaldo (2015/16)
15 - Lewandowski (2019/20)
15 - Ronaldo (2017/18)
15 - Benzema (2021/22)
14 - Messi (2011/12)
It's impressive that Ronaldo occupies the top three spots for the most goals in a single UCL season, showcasing the class he has displayed in this tournament. Lewandowski is the player who has come closest to breaking that record, and he is still in the tournament with Barcelona, so maybe he's one of those chasing the record. Last year, Erling Haaland became the top scorer in the tournament with 12 goals, and he seems like the most likely candidate to snatch the record from Ronaldo. Haaland set several records last season, especially in the Premier League, and with the group Manchester City has, it seems likely that Haaland is the favorite to become the top scorer in this year's Champions League.
Kylian Mbappe has found his goal-scoring form at PSG, and he could certainly be one of those who can get close to Ronaldo's 17 goals. And let's not forget about Harry Kane at Bayern. There are high expectations for Bayern in this year's Champions League, and their clear goal is to reach the final, which is one of the reasons they brought in Harry Kane. If their game is flowing smoothly, it's often seen that opponents are overpowered at the Allianz Arena, and in such scenarios, Harry Kane is likely to be among the goal-scorers.
