Can Gianluca Scamacca rediscover his goal-scoring form in Serie A?
The Italian striker has been brought in as a replacement for Rasmus Höjlund at Atalanta.
Scamacca didn't achieve the success at West Ham that was hoped for, with only 8 goals in all competitions, he fell far short of the expectations set when he was brought in from Serie A. Therefore, it makes sense that he is returning to the boot country to replace Rasmus Hojlund at Atalanta, who has moved to Manchester United. Scamacca is only 24 years old, so it's too early to label him as a flop after one poor season, and he has previously demonstrated his ability to score goals in Serie A, where he was the top scorer for Sassuolo before his move to West Ham.
Gianluca Scamacca stats for West Ham:
Games: 27
Goals: 8
Assists: 0
Gianluca Scamacca stats for Sassuolo:
Games: 41
Goals: 16
Assists: 1
Scamacca is a tall and physically imposing striker, which makes him a threat in aerial duels and set-piece situations. With his height and jumping ability, Scamacca is dangerous in the air and can be a threat from crosses and corners. He is skilled in linking up with teammates, as he can hold up the ball well, bringing teammates into play, and creating scoring opportunities for others. He is also proficient in front of the goal; however, at West Ham, he was not efficient enough in getting enough chances, but when he did get the opportunities, he was skilled in his finishing.
Atalanta is renowned for its attacking philosophy. They prioritize playing an offensive and high-intensity game, focusing on scoring goals and entertaining their fans. Atalanta applies intense high pressing, often starting from their forwards, to win the ball back quickly and high up the pitch. This approach aims to disrupt the opponent's build-up play and create turnovers in dangerous areas. They play a lot over the wings and also deliver crosses, so at first glance, Scamacca and Atalanta seem like a good match.
