A shock 3-1 defeat to Montenegro denied Turkey automatic promotion in the Nations League, forcing them into this high-stakes playoff. Vincenzo Montella’s side is dominant in possession and chance creation, but their defensive lapses have cost them, as seen throughout their Nations League campaign.

Playing at home should be an advantage, as Turkey is unbeaten in their last six home games (W4, D2). However, their record against Hungary is concerning (D1, L4 in the last five H2Hs), including two losses without scoring in the 2020/21 Nations League.

Hungary’s European Ambitions 

Hungary finished third in Group A3, behind Germany and the Netherlands, meaning they must fight to stay in the UNL’s top division. While Marco Rossi’s team struggled against elite opposition, they remain a tough side with Dominik Szoboszlai leading the attack.
